Monterey breeds Grand Champion CarcaseA Murray Grey heifer reigned supreme in the 2010 Perth Royal Show Prime Steer and Heifer Carcase competition. The carcase came from the heavyweight section of the competition and had a P8 fat of 7mm, rib fat of 5mm and EMA of 102cm². As a result, it scored perfect marks for fat depth, rib fat, EMA, fat colour, pH, muscle colour and market suitability. The Murray Grey heifer was sired by Monterey Verdict V44 and had been purchased from Monterey earlier in the year by Alastair Murray of Tullibardine Murray Greys, who recognised her potential and was anxious to finish her for the Perth Royal. She had been entered in the medium weight section on the hoof, where she was awarded Reserve Champion Medium Weight on the hoof, but ended up in the heavyweight class in the carcase section due to her excellent carcase yield.
